Preparing For Your Tattoo Session: What To Do and NOT Do

So, you have a tattoo design you’d like to get tattooed, an artist who gives off a good vibe, and have locked in your tattoo session – what next??

Every tattoo artist has their own suggestions and 'rules' for how their clients should prepare for their tattoo session. Often, artists will recommend you do certain things and advise you to not do others. But there are a few general rules and suggestions that most artists encourage you to do and not do.

Below are 5 things that we suggest you do and NOT do before your session with us 😊

What To Do:

1) Prepare Your Body:

The night before your session, be sure to get a good sleep – a tired body can negatively react to getting a tattoo and cause your tattoo experience to be an uncomfortable one. So be sure to get a nice amount of rest the night before your session.

On the day of your session, have a shower or bath before heading to our shop. If necessary, shave the area where you are getting your tattoo. If not, no worries, your tattoo artist will do it for you 😊

Also on the day of your session, eat a good meal before making your way to your appointment. Just like a good sleep, a well-nourished body can help you have the best tattoo experience possible.

2) Wear Comfortable and Easily Accessible Clothing:

Let's be honest, getting a tattoo hurts 😅 So it's always best to make your tattoo experience as comfortable as possible!

Wearing comfortable clothing, such as a pair of sweatpants and/or a sweatshirt, can help you relax while you are getting your tattoo. Basically, wear clothing that you would wear on a lazy Sunday afternoon ☺️

We also recommend wearing clothing that is easily accessible (i.e., clothing that can help your artist have easy access to the area of your body that you`re getting tattooed). Wearing a t-shirt (for a lower arm tattoo), pair of shorts (for a leg tattoo), or a tank-top (for an upper arm tattoo) are good options for clothing that is easily accessible.

3) Bring Personal Comfort Items:

At Paradiso Tattoo, we have headphones and a tablet for you to listen to music or watch your favourite TV show or film while you are getting your tattoo. We also offer a wide variety of snacks, drinks, tea, and coffee to our clients.

But you are welcome to bring your own personal comfort items! We also encourage our clients to take breaks during their sessions to refuel their body with snacks and drinks, and take it easy.

What Not To Do:

1) Do Not Drink Alcohol Before Your Session:

We require that our clients do not drink alcohol the night before or the day of their session. Alcohol in the bloodstream can cause more bleeding while you’re getting your tattoo.

Our Waiver form, that you will fill out before your session, requires clients to confirm that they haven’t consumed alcohol immediately prior to getting their tattoo and that they are not intoxicated. Otherwise, you will not be able to get your tattoo.

2) Do Not Come In For Your Session If You Are Feeling Sick:

If you are feeling unwell before your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. We would greatly appreciate hearing from you no later than 24 hours prior to your session. We would be happy to reschedule your appointment to a date that works best for you when you are rested and well.

Take Away:

Each artist’s suggestions and 'rules' about how to prepare for getting a tattoo can vary. But preparing your body; wearing comfortable/easily accessible clothing; bringing personal comfort items; not drinking alcohol prior to your session; and letting us know if you’re feeling unwell before your appointment, are the main ones we suggest and require at our shop.
